The Maze Runner Movie Review

The Maze Runner was better than Divergent. Still I found it quite boring. Never read the YA books, I was hoping the movie versions would at least jumpstart some interest in me. Not so much in this case.
Is it time to dance The Footloose?

Thomas (Dylan O' Brien) who looks like a young Kevin Bacon gets dump in the middle of a huge industrial maze. Thomas is just one curious kid whose first instinct is to find a way out. He starts off as a newbie then relegated to Maze Runner just after 3 days to the chagrin of the group bully.

A whole 'Lord of the Flies' thing ensues with a ginger Alpha named Gally (Will Poulter) still quite similar to Jack Merridew of The Lord of the Flies. He would rather stay put than signal a ship or in this case, just live in the middle of the maze and call it home for like- forever. Blake Cooper playing baby Chuck is an obvious 'Piggy' shoo-in.

Like rats in a dystopian Daedalean labyrinth, the boys try to figure their way out by facing the resident Minotaur which happens to be a bunch of robot spiders. Most of the killing happens by outrunning them.

Then the emergence of  Eve, well Teresa, who looks like a strung-out Bella Swan. And none of the boys want to get into her pants. Really now?

My only interest in seeing this film was this hottie!

Thomas Brodie-Sangster

And the end was rather predictable, similar to other YA Dystopian movies of this vein.

If you want teens fighting to the death, my money is still on the film classic Battle Royale (Batoru Rowaiaru) and not the Western ripoffs.
